Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl teases Glastonbury crowd for sussing ‘surprise’ before bringing daughter out on Pyramid Stage

In a turn of events that came as absolutely no surprise to anyone, the Foo Fighters played their so-called ‘secret’ set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury on Friday evening, much to everyone’s huge delight.

While it might not exactly have been as unexpected as originally intended, their arrival wowed the thousands of festival-goers who came to soak in the music and impeccable vibes, singing along enthusiastically to tracks including All My Life and The Pretenders as frontman Dave Grohl dripped with sweat.

The singer later revealed that he had a secret of his own up his sleeve… bringing out his 17-year-old daughter Violet Maye Grohl for a duet.

Half an hour into their set, Dave addressed the crowds… and brought up the elephant in the room.

‘You guys f**king knew it was us huh? You knew it was us!’ the 54-year-old quipped, before adding: ‘We’re not good at secrets.’

Having recalled last performing at Glastonbury in 2017, he added: ‘Well it’s nice to see your face again, it’s been a nice time.

‘Still beautiful, as it always has been. Another beautiful day, another beautiful audience.’

After introducing each member of the band to the audience, Dave then revealed that his daughter, Violet, would be joining him on stage

Describing her as his ‘favourite singer in the world’, the former Nirvana drummer explained that the song that they’d be singing was called Show Me How and was written for his mother, Violet’s grandmother.

Violet received a rush of praise for her performance from fans on social media.

‘@foofighters slaying it at #glastonbury2023 as the secret act, but this song for Dave’s mother is beautiful. Performed by FF and Violet Grohl and it’s so pretty,’ one person wrote.

‘Current #Glasto highlight is Dave Grohl and his daughter Violet performing fave song from their new album, Show Me How. So good! What a treat for that lucky crowd tonight,’ another said.

Someone else wrote: ‘It’s true what they say about fam singing together. Dave and Violet sound gorgeous.’

Dave shares three daughters with his wife Jordyn Blum, who he’s been married to since 2003.

The rocker was previously married to Jennifer Leigh Youngblood, with their wedding taking place in 1994 before their separation and divorce in 1996 and 1997 respectively.

Last year, Dave opened up about the impact that he believes his daughter will have on the world.

Having previously said that it was a ‘life dream’ of his to be a drummer for his daughter when she sings on stage, he stated: ‘When we play those songs, 100,000 people will sing along and there aren’t too many things in life that bring those people together like that.
