Ringo Starr Shares How He Feels as He Approaches His 85th Birthday: “I’m 24 in [My Head] … and Life Is Great”
Ringo Starr will celebrate his 85th birthday on July 7. The famed Beatles drummer, who currently is on tour with his All Starr Band, appears to be in excellent health, as he’s been seen running around and doing jumping on stage, as well as keeping the beat behind his kit, at recent concerts.
In a video interview with the Associated Press posted earlier in June, Starr was asked if he reflects on his storied life and career when he has another birthday.

“I don’t do a lot of that,” Ringo explained. “You know, I mean, it is another birthday, and I don’t really like to read my age, because no one does anything these days unless they mention your age, you know. And as I keep telling people, ‘I’m 24 in here [my head], so if you could start putting that.’”
He added, “You know, the beat goes on, and you’re here as long as you’re here. And that’s sort of [the] attitude I’ve got. And, you know, I have a lot of great days. Of course, some days are miserable. And life is great. … I have a great life, and it’s a lot different than if I’d have stayed in Liverpool.”

On His Promotion of “Peace and Love”
Of course, Starr is known for his famous catchphrase, “Peace and Love.” Every year since 2008, Starr has asked fans around the world to mark his birthday by thinking about or saying “peace and love” at noon on July 7 wherever they are.
Starr usually takes part in an annual public birthday gathering featuring musical performances and a cake. Since 2022, the celebration has been held at Beverly Hills Garden Park in Beverly Hills, California. The park is the location of a large “Peace and Love” statue donated by Ringo and depicting his hand making a peace sign.
Details about the 2025 celebration haven’t been announced yet.
During the Associated Press interview, Starr was asked if he felt his message of peace and love was especially important today, taking into account how on edge the world seems to be.

“I think it’s important every day,” Ringo said. “And you know, right now the world is going through a madness, and maybe [thinking about peace and love will] help.”
