Anne Burrell, beloved celebrity chef and longtime host of Worst Cooks in America, has passed away suddenly at the age of 55. Her family confirmed the tragic news on Tuesday, June 17, in a statement to PEOPLE, remembering her as a radiant and loving presence who impacted millions of lives.
“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
Found Unresponsive In Her Home Tuesday Morning
According to TMZ, a 911 call was made after Burrell was found unresponsive in her home early Tuesday morning. Paramedics were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner to determine her cause of death.

Just one night before her untimely passing, Burrell performed in a student improv show with The Second City Training Center in New York City. She had been enthusiastically taking classes and sharing her joy on social media.

“It is SO much fun and I am learning so SO much!!! It really helps me get out of my shell… as if I needed that!!” she wrote in a post on March 19.
Her final public appearance was Monday night, June 16, when she performed live and was reportedly in high spirits.
“She was in great spirits last night during and after the improv show,” said a source. “Typical fun, outgoing Anne, having a blast.”
Tributes Pour In From Friends, Fans, and Second City
Second City released a heartfelt tribute to the late chef, writing:
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and student, Anne Burrell. She will be missed and remembered as a vibrant part of our Second City New York Training Center community. Her enthusiasm was contagious, her presence unforgettable.”
Burrell is survived by her husband of four years, Stuart Claxton, her stepson Javier, and children Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas.
