Jeannie Seely’s Cause of Death Revealed

Seely passed away at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee. According to her longtime publicist Don Murray Grubbs, her death was the result of complications from an intestinal infection.

In the months leading up to her passing, Seely had undergone several medical procedures, including multiple back surgeries and two emergency abdominal operations. She spent 11 days in intensive care and battled pneumonia in her final days.

Despite her declining health, Jeannie remained a beloved figure in country music, often attending events and supporting up-and-coming artists well into her 80s.

A Groundbreaking Career and Opry Legacy

Jeannie Seely rose to fame in 1966 with her Grammy-winning hit “Don’t Touch Me.” Though she never had a No. 1 song on the charts, her influence was immeasurable. She was affectionately known as “Miss Country Soul” for her distinctive voice and heartfelt performances.

In 1967, she became the first woman to host the Grand Ole Opry. Over the next five decades, she helped shape the culture of the historic show, serving as a mentor and advocate for women in country music. Her contributions were formally recognized when she was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1967 — a membership she proudly maintained until her death.
