Jelly Roll’s Wife Bunnie Xo Claps Back at “Fake Love” Claim After Controversial Kiss

Bunnie Xo, who tied the knot with country singer Jelly Roll in 2016, reacted to online critics who called her marriage “fake” after a notable kiss at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Bunnie Xo is hopping ahead of the haters.
Nearly three weeks after sharing a light kiss with husband Jelly Roll on the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards red carpet, the 45-year-old defended her decade-long marriage by calling out critics who claim the couple have a “fake love.”
“They’re like, ‘She’s not really with him. That was a fake kiss. This is fake love. Ew. Can you believe the way she kissed him?’” Bunnie (real name Alyssa DeFord) said in a clip from her Dumb Blonde podcast shared to TikTok May 23. “If I lingered on his lips longer than 10 seconds, you guys would be like, ‘Oh, she’s still a whore. Get a room. This is disgusting. This is a family award show.’”
Plus, Bunnie—who is stepmom to Jelly Roll’s kids Bailee, 17, and son Noah, 8—doesn’t want her glam to get on her husband’s face.
“I have lip gloss on. I have an entire face [of makeup],” she continued. “My husband has to continue taking pictures after that kiss. So, does he want a freaking lip liner and gloss all over his face? No.”
Bunnie also noted that she and Jelly Roll (real name Jason Bradley DeFord) have built friendships with the photographers on the red carpet, who often ask them to kiss while posing for photos.
“They don’t do that with any other couple,” she shared. “And I don’t mind. I love our photographers that are our friends. They always get a great picture. And so, if they want us to kiss, we’ll kiss.”
She added, “I don’t mind kissing my husband, but I’m not gonna lock lips with him.”
Beyond avoiding any makeup mishaps, Bunnie admitted that she and Jelly Roll are mindful of the impact of their public image.

“As the brand has grown, we’re in front of children. We’re in front of families,” she explained. “You want me to f–king lick his balls right there on stage? Like, what do you want me to do?”
But Bunnie isn’t the only one who has been open about the strength of her love for her partner. In fact, Jelly Roll has gushed about knowing his wife is the one.
“Nobody’s seen in us what we see in each other,” he said of Bunnie on a January 2024 episode of the Full Send podcast, “and I think that’s what makes our love so special.”
