The wink heard around the world.

There have been many viral moments throughout this never-ending saga of Ella Langley and Riley Green‘s alleged romance, but this recent moment made fans feel like their relationship status was solidified as definitely not together.

I mean, I think there have been many moments that have screamed they are not together, like when both of the artists explicitly said so. I mean, shouldn’t that be enough? Especially in today’s entertainment world where you can probably sell more tickets by actually having a love story. Riley Green even acknowledged that fans want to believe in the “You Look Like You Love Me,” love story, similar to what Faith Hill and Tim McGraw or George Jones and Tammy Wynette had over the years. So why would they hide or deny it?

He explained:

“Yeah, I mean, Ella’s probably too smart to date me anyway. But I think that’s kind of the country music fan, like, they love the Tim McGraw and Faith, and the George and Tammy. And when we first started having the success we did with that song, I kinda told Ella, I was like, ‘There’s gonna be a lot of things said, but I mean, you don’t really have to play into it or not play into it, it’s gonna be something people enjoy the same way we do when we go listen to those songs.’”

However, that did not stop fans from becoming thoroughly convinced that they were romantically involved. The rumor mill began swirling and has kept swirling, with some fans believing he’s two-timing Megan Moroney and Ella Langley. That narrative took off after a show in Wilmington, North Carolina, when Ella reacted to a fan’s sign that read:

“Wink if Riley’s a dumb***.”

Ella looked straight at it and gave it an overexaggerated wink, along with a little smirk while readinG

The comments section blew up on the post with users feeling like it confirmed their suspicions about the state of the relationship between Riley and Ella.

“TEEEEEEAAAAA. We all knew it. God bless her. Imagine choosing Megan over this queen. EMBARRASSING.”

“This is fr the only hard evidence we have on this rumor and it’s now 100% confirmed.”

“She smiled as she was reading it.”

“Didn’t even break stride, Queen behavior.”

After we reported on this at Whiskey Riff, Riley Green and Ella Langley commented on our Instagram post, making some comical remarks about what the wink actually meant.

“Bro, my bangs were totally in my eye.”

Ella Langley wrote. Riley Green also commented:

“She must have thought it said ‘wink if Riley is a great dancer.’”

Of course, if you know anything about Ella at all, she’s very funny, pretty sarcastic, and never afraid to talk a little smack with the boys… you know, like her good friend Riley Green. Just imagine you’re a singer on stage and you saw a sign like that in the crowd about one of your good friends, collaborators and tourmates, of course you’re gonna give a funny answer.

And that’s exactly what that was…

While talking to Elaina Smith with Backstage Country, Ella Langley cleared up her response to the fan’s sign in North Carolina, raising her hand and saying that she was “excited to talk about this.”

“Let me tell you, the next day he texted me that video. He said, ‘Not the sweetest thing I’ve seen.’

I was like, okay, hear me out. This might not be believable to you, which he knows me, so I’m kind of a jokester. I tend to live on the dark side of humor, so whenever I answered that, I was just answering it as myself and not like as ‘Ella Langley.’ And I was just kind of answering the joke. Like, obviously it’s a very dramatic wink, and right when it happened, I saw all the phones up there and I was like “Oh my god, that’s going to be taken out of context and I’m going to get ripped a new one.’

I texted and I was like, ‘Hey, look, I would see that as playful and endearing personally.’ And I saw a lot of women on there saying that they’d say that about their husband, so I was like ‘See, it’s not that bad.’”

HA! I mean, he’s not wrong…

It’s amusing to see that they are discussing how the online rumors are being perceived. I’ve said it before, and I’ll scream it from the mountain tops, it’s time that we stay out of their personal lives, and honestly, not be so gullible about her jokes. This interview clip certainly suggests that the two are having fun, feeding into the rumor, and share a good sense of humor, and I for one, am here to see this comical side of Ella Langley.

As Patti Scialfa reached for his trembling hand, their duet unraveled into something raw, broken, and painfully beautiful. Their harmonies faltered, not from lack of skill—but from the weight of emotion too heavy to carry alone. And when the final chord faded, Bruce turned his back to the mic, burying his face in Patti’s shoulder, as if the only thing holding him together was her arms. The lights dimmed. The silence stayed. And for the first time in decades, Springsteen left the stage not to applause—but to the sound of hearts breaking in unison.
