Keith Urban joined with pop star Julia Michaels at the 2018 ACM Awards on Sunday night (April 15) for a very special performance of his latest single, \u201cComing Home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The song is the first official single from Urban\u2019s upcoming album, Graffiti U, and it\u2019s very progressive by country music standards, even compared to some of the envelope-pushing songs he\u2019s released in recent years. But he also borrows from traditional country music for the song, sampling the opening guitar riff from Merle Haggard\u2019s classic, \u201cMama Tried.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urban is always one of the most poised and natural performers in country music, and he gave a typically easy-yet-energetic performance, offset by Michaels\u2019 cool interlude as she hit the stage wearing red. It was a standout moment that was part of a night of standout moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urban sought permission from Haggard\u2019s family before he went forward with \u201cComing Home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI called Theresa Haggard and Ben Haggard to play them what we\u2019d been working on,\u201d he says. \u201cIt was important to me to have their blessing \u2014 and I\u2019m so grateful that they love the song.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urban will release\u00a0Graffiti U<\/em>\u00a0on April 27. The project includes 13 songs. In addition \u201cComing Home,\u201d fans have already heard \u201cFemale\u201d on the radio. At an\u00a0album preview party\u00a0in January,\u00a0Urban shared four other songs:\u00a0\u201cSteal My Thunder,\u201d \u201cSame Heart,\u201d \u201cTexas Time\u201d and \u201cParallel Line.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urban was also nominated for Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Song and Vocal Event of the Year in the 2018\u00a0ACM Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
