MetLife Stadium\u2014his home turf\u2014was filled with nearly 90,000 fans who had followed \u201cThe Boss\u201d for generations. Bruce walked slowly to the center, guitar strapped across his shoulder. He didn\u2019t speak at first. The stadium held its breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then he said, voice rough with emotion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere\u2019s someone I\u2019ve missed on every stage for the last fourteen years. But tonight\u2026 I want to play one more song with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And just like that, a spotlight hit a single mic stand at stage left\u2014where\u00a0<strong>Clarence Clemons<\/strong>, the legendary saxophonist and Bruce\u2019s closest stage brother, used to stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The band began to play \u201cJungleland.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bruce\u2019s voice, weathered and raw, carried the verses with reverence. And when the famous saxophone solo came, the screen lit up\u2014not with effects, but with old tour footage of Clarence, larger than life, playing that very solo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd erupted in sobs and cheers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But then\u2014another figure walked on stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was\u00a0<strong>Jake Clemons<\/strong>, Clarence\u2019s nephew, now a member of the E Street Band. Not a word was needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jake\u2019s solo wasn\u2019t a copy. It was a continuation\u2014filled with emotion, trembling at first, then bold. It wasn\u2019t perfect. But it was\u00a0<em>right<\/em>. I just want to play one more song with my brother.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jake, who had inherited not just the saxophone but the soul of Clarence\u2019s stage presence, was hesitant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI didn\u2019t want to step into his place. But Bruce said, \u2018You\u2019re not stepping in.
