She wipes away tears and tells the crowd her emotions are embarrassing before explain why she\u2019s changed the lyrics to \u201cPiece\u00a0by Piece\u201d for a third time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"kelly-clarkson-piece-by-piece-lyrics\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kelly Clarkson, \u201cPiece\u00a0by Piece\u201d Lyrics:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Greg Kurstin helped Clarkson write\u00a0\u201cPiece\u00a0by Piece\u201d as a note to her father, who she felt abandoned her and her family when she was young, only to later to try to crawl back into the singer\u2019s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Conversely, Blackstock was a man she felt would always be there for her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSSRDIni_h0J9uz_060XiPR3JlkIvY4P_-cSg&s\" alt=\"Kelly Clarkson Wipes Tears Onstage Days Before Brandon Blackstock's Death - YouTube\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>He never walks away \/ He never asks for money \/ He takes care of me \/ He loves me \/ Piece by piece, he restored my faith \/ That a man can be kind and a father could stay,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0she sings at the chorus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2023, she changed the song to be a celebration of self, thus taking Blackstock\u2019s memory out of it.\u00a0<em>\u201cI just walk away \/ when they ask for money \/ I take care of me \/ \u2019cause I love me \u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2025 version takes a little of the anger out of the lyrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Talking to fans in Vegas, Clarkson says she\u2019s matured some.
