At first, it was an act of rebellion \u2014 a way to protect himself and express a sense of freedom. \u201cThe dresses were like a shield,\u201d he explained, \u201chiding the wounds inside.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over time, thanks to unwavering support from his fans, he realized he no longer needed that shield.
