Appearing on the&nbsp;<em>TFU Podcast<\/em>, Damizza recalled the Detroit rapper reaching out to him about casting the iconic singer in the 2002 semi-autobiographical film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At first, Damizza was against the idea of Em offering her the role. \u201cI pleaded with him not to offer Mariah the movie role.\u201d he admitted, as caught by&nbsp;<em>AllHipHop<\/em>. Eventually, he caved and reached out to Carey. \u201cSo I go to Mariah, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Look, Eminem wants to meet you,\u2019 and she\u2019s like, \u2018No,\u2019\u201d Damizza recalled. Carey thought Eminem was looking to collaborate on music, but once Damizza clarified it was for a film, she reconsidered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two arranged a phone call, but once Eminem noted the role was to play his mother, Carey was against it. \u201cShe did not like that s**t at all,\u201d Damizza said. \u201cHer insecurities kicked in big time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The role ended up going to Kim Basinger, who had been best known for her roles in several blockbusters, including Tim Burton\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Batman<\/em>&nbsp;as well as&nbsp;<em>L.A. Confidential<\/em>, among others.&nbsp;<em>8 Mile<\/em>&nbsp;ended up being a massive success, earning a total of $242.9 million at the worldwide box office. The accompanying soundtrack was also hugely popular as well, with the Recording Industry Association of America&nbsp;(RIAA) eventually certifiying it quadruple platinum. The song, \u201cLose Yourself,\u201d won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"h-eminem-amp-mariah-carey-beef\"><strong>Eminem &amp; Mariah Carey Beef<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The film released around the same time that Eminem\u2019s infamous feud with Mariah Carey became public. Eminem claimed the two had a brief romantic fling, which Carey denied. He went on to diss her on the song, \u201cSuperman,\u201d off his album,&nbsp;<em>The Eminem Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two traded shots on various songs and in public interviews over the next several years.
