{"id":20162,"date":"2026-02-01T15:14:50","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T07:14:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/artgardenhub.com\/?p=20162"},"modified":"2026-02-01T15:14:51","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T07:14:51","slug":"where-is-guns-n-roses-welcome-to-the-jungle-set","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artgardenhub.com\/?p=20162","title":{"rendered":"Where is Guns N\u2019 Roses\u2019 \u2018Welcome to the Jungle\u2019 set?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If the title of\u00a0Guns N\u2019 Roses\u2019 1987 debut album,\u00a0<em>Appetite for Destruction,\u00a0<\/em>wasn\u2019t enough of a warning, then the album\u2019s opener, \u2018Welcome to the Jungle\u2019, introduced listeners to their signature chaos: \u201cWelcome to the jungle, it gets worse here every day,\u201d singer Axl Rose wails, \u201cYou learn to live like an animal in the jungle where we play.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The general premise of\u00a0\u2018Welcome to the Jungle\u2019s lyrical origins\u00a0stays the same: Rose steps off a bus and, faced with the overwhelming menace of a city, is prompted to chronicle the disorder that lies before him. What changes, however, is the city that inspired his song in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Understandably, with all of its glittering hedonism, it is widely believed that \u2018Welcome to the Jungle\u2019 is about Los Angeles. Guns N\u2019 Roses\u2019 origins in the City of Angels lend to the theory, as well, living in their infamous \u201cHell House\u201d in West Hollywood that served as a combined home, rehearsal space and realm of debauchery for the city\u2019s outcasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Guns N\u2019 Roses began to garner a following in Hollywood\u2019s club circuit, storming the legendary stages at The Troubadour and The Roxy, their name became increasingly synonymous with the city. Then-rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin seconded the theory of Los Angeles as a muse, describing the song as being \u201cabout Hollywood streets; true to life\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guitarist&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/faroutmagazine.co.uk\/bands-slash-was-proud-to-destroy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Slash<\/a>&nbsp;claimed to&nbsp;<em>SPIN&nbsp;<\/em>that he had no recollection of where Rose\u2019s lyrics came from, but he knows that they nonetheless fit perfectly with the riff he made on an acoustic guitar, sitting in his bedroom. \u201cIt was a very telling lyric \u2013 just the stark honesty of it,\u201d guitarist Slash told&nbsp;<em>Classic Rock<\/em>. \u201cIf you lived in Los Angeles \u2013 and lived in the trenches, so to speak \u2013 you could relate to it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1988, however, Rose told\u00a0<em>Hit Parader<\/em>\u00a0that a trip to Seattle to visit a friend\u00a0prompted his writing. \u201cIt\u2019s a big city, but at the same time, it\u2019s still a small city compared to LA and the things that you\u2019re gonna learn,\u201d Rose recounted. \u201cIt seemed a lot more rural up there. I just wrote how it looked to me. If someone comes to town and they want to find something, they can find whatever they want.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, Rose told&nbsp;<em>SPIN<\/em>&nbsp;in 1999 that it was, in fact, a moment in New York City that inspired \u2018Welcome to the Jungle\u2019. Emerging from a bus stop, Rose and his friend were confronted by a homeless man who warned, \u201cYou know where you are? You\u2019re in the jungle, baby, you\u2019re gonna die!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless of the true setting of \u2018Welcome to the Jungle\u2019, the song foretold Guns N\u2019 Roses\u2019 rise to prominence as one of rock\u2019s most notorious bands, known as much for their antics as for their masterful guitars and captivating lyricism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was really the first thing we all collaborated on,\u201d Slash revealed to&nbsp;<em>Classic Rock<\/em>, concluding, \u201cIn that whole \u2018discovering ourselves\u2019 period from \u201985 through \u201986 \u2013 when we were living together very haphazardly and getting together and jamming \u2013 there was something going on that not a lot of people had.
