\u201cI put an ad in a local paper [after my previous bands Chelsea and Lips were over] and that\u2019s when [future KISS bassist\/vocalist] Gene Simmons called,\u201d Criss said. \u201cHe asked me, \u2018Are you tall?\u2019, \u2018Are you good-looking?\u2019, \u2018Do you have long hair?\u2019, \u2018Are you willing to wear a dress and high heels?\u2019, \u2018Are you willing to wear lipstick?\u2019 I couldn\u2019t believe what he was asking me, but those questions fascinated me. I said to my wife at the time, \u2018I\u2019ve got to meet this guy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe had been to London for our honeymoon not that long before and I\u2019d found some really cool clothes there,\u201d he continued. \u201cSo when I went down to Electric Lady Studios in New York to meet Gene and Paul for the first time, I was really dolled up\u2026 Gene told me later that day he thought I was a rock star going into the studio to make an album.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
