{"id":20293,"date":"2026-02-04T14:02:30","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T06:02:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/artgardenhub.com\/?p=20293"},"modified":"2026-02-04T14:02:32","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T06:02:32","slug":"timothee-chalamet-spent-six-figures-of-own-money-on-saturday-night-live-bob-dylan-performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artgardenhub.com\/?p=20293","title":{"rendered":"Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet spent \u201csix figures\u201d of own money on \u2018Saturday Night Live\u2019 Bob Dylan performance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet\u00a0has revealed that he spent \u201csix figures\u201d of his own money to perform\u00a0Bob Dylan\u00a0songs on\u00a0<em>Saturday Night Live<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The actor pulled double duty on the huge US variety show early last year, when he both hosted and performed as the musical guest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He played three Dylan tracks\u00a0\u2013 \u2018Outlaw Blues\u2019, \u2018Three Angels\u2019 and \u2018Tomorrow Is A Long Time\u2019 \u2013 to promote 2025 biopic\u00a0<em>A Complete Unknown<\/em>, in which he stars as the legendary singer-songwriter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chalamet was backed by a full live band on his episode of\u00a0<em>SNL<\/em>, with\u00a0James Blake\u00a0playing keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a recent Q&amp;A in London, the actor recalled&nbsp;<em>SNL<\/em>&nbsp;creator\/producer Lorne Michaels approaching him to return as host for a third time. Chalamet agreed, on the condition that he could be the musical guest as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI said, \u2018Yeah, can I do the music?\u2019,\u201d he said (via\u00a0<em>Consequence<\/em>). \u201cHe\u2019s like, \u2018No\u2019. I said, \u2018Alright, I\u2019m not doing it\u2019. He said, \u2018OK, do the music\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chalamet added: \u201cI spent over six figures out of my pocket to do the&nbsp;<em>SNL<\/em>&nbsp;performance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He did not elaborate on how the live outing ended up setting him back at least $100,000 (\u00a373,213). The hefty sum was perhaps due to music rights, as the three deep cuts Chalamet played were not featured in&nbsp;<em>A Complete Unknown<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"attachment_3828712\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Timothee_Chalamet_Bob_Dylan.jpg\" alt=\"Timothee Chalamet\" class=\"wp-image-3828712\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet as Bob Dylan in \u2018A Complete Unknown\u2019. CREDIT: Searchlight Pictures<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It could include fees for the live musicians on stage, too, as well as expenses such as travel, accommodation and rehearsal time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chalamet reportedly made the comments when talking about how he was willing to go the extra mile when out on press tours for his films. When promoting A24\u2019s\u00a0<em>Marty Supreme<\/em>, the actor sent out branded jackets to celebrities he considered to be \u201cgreat\u201d, including\u00a0unlikely recipient Susan Boyle. He also wore some of the pieces himself during interviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Dylan performance on\u00a0<em>Saturday Night Live<\/em>\u00a0came shortly after\u00a0Chalamet earned two Best Picture nominations at the Oscars 2025\u00a0with\u00a0<em>A Complete Unknown<\/em>\u00a0and<em>\u00a0Dune: Part Two<\/em>. He also received a Best Actor nomination himself for his portrayal of Dylan. However,\u00a0Chalamet did not win any awards\u00a0at last year\u2019s ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For 2026,\u00a0he is up for Best Actor again with\u00a0<em>Marty Supreme<\/em>. The film is in the running for nine Oscars overall, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Casting.
