Paul McCartney\u00a0took part in a Q&A at a special screening event for his new documentary,\u00a0Man On The Run<\/em>, in London on Wednesday, February 18. As previously reported, the film looks at McCartney\u2019s life and music career after the 1970 breakup of\u00a0The Beatles, particularly focusing on his post-Fab Four group\u00a0Wings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Video footage of the interview, which also featured\u00a0Man On The Run<\/em>\u00a0director Morgan Neville, has been posted on\u00a0YouTube. During the Q&A, McCartney reflected on the challenge he undertook to launch a new group after being in the most famous and successful band in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe tried to follow The Beatles,\u201d he commented. \u201cIt was like, you know, it\u2019s mad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked if he recognized that what he did with Wings was brave, he replied, \u201cYeah. I actually just see the madness, you know. \u2026 I think it was so impossible to do something like that, that the only way you could do it was just in a kind of looney way that we did it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCartney then touched on the first tour Wings did, which took place in February 1972. The 11-show trek featured the band traveling around the U.K. in a van, performing at various universities. The tickets to these concerts were incredibly cheap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Sir Paul recalled, \u201c[We just thought,] \u2018Yeah, we\u2019ll just go back to square one, and we\u2019ll just go show up at a university, don\u2019t book hotels, and just \u2026 take the dogs in a van. And, you know, for some reason, we thought that was like a great idea.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCartney Also Felt He Began To Grow Up After The Beatles\u2019 Breakup<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1970, McCartney was asked what his plans were following The Beatles\u2019 split, and he answered, \u201cMy only plan is to grow up!\u201d During the Q&A, the interviewer pointed out that the documentary showed that Paul had started to focus on family life after his famous band broke up. This included having his wife be a part of his new group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As McCartney explained, \u201cWell, I think \u2026 with The Beatles, we were just lads. Everyone, all our management used to call us \u2018the boys.\u2019 \u2026 So we were always like young people. And then, when I got married and then there was a baby on the way, I had to grow up. I thought, \u2018We can\u2019t just go [on] just being \u2026 the boys anymore.\u2019 So it was time to just think about stuff. And so, even though the film is kind of madcap, and what you\u2019re seeing is all our insane decisions, in the background there was some sensible decisions too, you know. We also had, like, a sensible life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCartney also shared that his favorite parts of the documentary included the footage of his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think all the stuff with the kids and Linda, you know, is lovely to see,\u201d he said. \u201cI mean, obviously, the Linda stuff was very emotional \u2026 \u2019cause she looks so beautiful. She\u2019s so cool. So that comes over.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As previously reported,\u00a0Man On The Run<\/em>\u00a0will get its TV premiere on Friday, February 27, on Amazon\u2019s Prime Video streaming service. A companion soundtrack album will be\u00a0released the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
