You have to appreciate an artist who truly loves playing for the people. On April 4, 2025, commuters passing through King’s Cross in London stumbled into something genuinely special. Ed Sheeran casually showed up and played a free, surprise set right in the middle of the busy terminal. It is incredibly rare to see an artist of his massive global standing do things like this so regularly. The popup gig had a remarkably warm and intimate vibe. Lucky fans quickly gathered around, singing the words right back to him, while Sheeran wore his trademark grin the entire time. He treated the impromptu crowd to a full six-song set. He worked through massive favorites like “Castle on the Hill,” “Shivers,” “Perfect,” “Shape of You,” and “Bad Habits.” To close things out, he performed his brand new, feel-good single, “Azizam,” which had just been released that exact day. His vocal performance was absolutely flawless. It is always refreshing to hear a major pop star singing live with no pitch correction. The show was also a great reminder of his sheer technical skill. He effortlessly layered multiple instrumental loops together live on the spot, all while delivering perfect vocals over the top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The very next day, a fan channel called Ed Sheeran on Tour uploaded a video of the entire performance. The comment section quickly filled with people pointing out exactly why moments like this matter to music fans. One viewer noted that Sheeran does exactly what most of us claim we would do if we ever got famous. Even after years of intense stardom, he still pops up on street corners and plays spontaneous gigs simply because he genuinely loves the craft of playing for people. This is certainly not a new habit for him. Sheeran has a long history of putting on these unannounced, free shows. Back in April 2023, he played a memorable street performance in New York City. That particular gig happened the day after he won a high-profile copyright trial regarding his track “Thinking Out Loud.” Standing out in the open street, he played a completely acoustic, unplugged version of his ballad “Boat.” It was a fantastic display of how well he can project his raw voice with zero amplification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the new track he debuted at the King’s Cross station, “Azizam” officially dropped on April 3, 2025. It serves as the lead single for his upcoming eighth studio album, Play<\/strong>, which is scheduled to arrive on September 12. He co-wrote and co-produced the track alongside Ilya Salmanzadeh, Johnny McDaid, and Savan Kotecha. The song itself has a beautiful backstory. The title translates to “my beloved” in Persian, and the lyrics are a direct tribute to his relationship with his wife. The recording even brings in Iranian and Indian musicians playing traditional instruments to create a fresh sound for his catalog. Sheeran explained that the unique concept sparked when his Iranian-born co-writer, Salmanzadeh, suggested they write something honoring his cultural and musical heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
