Europe singer Joey Tempest recalled in an interview with Classic Rock<\/a> magazine when Queen<\/a> singer Freddie Mercury<\/a> got angry with them when they were recording at the same studio. The musician also talked about an encounter with Metallica\u2019s James Hetfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Europe\u2019s Joey Tempest recalls when Freddie Mercury was angry with them:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m afraid we pissed Freddie off. We were at Townhouse Studios [in London], sound-checking Ian Haugland\u2019s drums with producer Ron Nevison for the Out Of This World album [1988]. All of a sudden this face, a bit red, appeared and announced: \u201cYou must be joking.\u201d\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFreddie was in the room next to us, trying to record some opera music, and we hadn\u2019t closed the door properly. He said: \u201cYour drums are going straight into our mixing console. Would you please keep it down.\u201d Very posh, very eloquent, but quite annoyed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tempest also recalled that he met Metallica\u2019s James Hetfield when the band was making their groundbreaking \u201cBlack Album\u201d back in the 90\u2019s. Europe singer told James their were also making an album and were about to put some \u201cbig-ass background vocals\u201d. Tempest said that: \u201cHe looked at me confused. \u201cBackground vocals?\u201d Metallica don\u2019t even use those. So I gave up and we spoke about something else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The musician also recalled talking with M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce\u2019s Tommy Lee and Vince Neil:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
