According to an unreliable-but-delightful source, Em believed only Mariah had the emotional range (and whistle notes) to portray his inner demons. The source claims: \u201cHe wanted to confuse the audience so much they\u2019d feel what he felt growing up.\u201d Fans joked: \u201cSo\u2026 she\u2019s his ex, his mother, AND himself? This man invented cinematic gaslighting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We belong together \u2014 as mother and son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eminem \u2014 who starred as aspiring rapper Jimmy \u201cB-Rabbit\u201d Smith in \u201c8 Mile,\u201d the 2002 movie based on his own life \u2014 reportedly had a certain pop superstar in mind to play the role of his alcoholic mom, who he lives with in a trailer home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it was none other than Mariah Carey, according to producer Damion \u201cDamizza\u201d Young, who was working with the legendary singer at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It all began when Eminem requested a meeting with Carey, Damizza said on the \u201cTFU Podcast.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m not getting in the middle of that. I know how this ends,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Damizza claimed that Carey initially turned down the meeting before she heard about the movie, alleging she eventually agreed to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe first thing out of [Eminem\u2019s] mouth is, \u2018I want you to play my mother,\u2019\u201d Damizza recalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Carey, who at 56 is only four years older than Eminem, was allegedly insulted by the offer. \u201cHer insecurities kicked in big time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Carey never went on to join the cast of \u201c8 Mile\u201d \u2014 with the role of Eminem\u2019s mom going to Oscar-winning actress Kim Basinger \u2014 Damizza alleged that the meeting was the catalyst for the long-rumored romance between the two music icons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was her chasing him, not him chasing her,\u201d he said. \u201cNext thing I know, we are at Eminem\u2019s house \u2026 and they disappear. The second they went into his room, literally, I was like, \u2018I\u2019m going back to LA. There is no point of me being here.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt went from business to f\u2013king,\u201d Damizza claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Eminem has also claimed that they dated \u2014 he even referenced Carey on the tracks \u201cSuperman\u201d and \u201cWhen the Music Stops\u201d from 2002\u2019s \u201cThe Eminem Show\u201d \u2014 Carey has denied ever having a relationship with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That led the \u201cWe Belong Together\u201d singer to seemingly take aim at Eminem on her 2009 hit \u201cObsessed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTelling the world how much you miss me\/But we never were, so why you tripping?\u201d sings Carey, who also donned an Eminem-like disguise as a stalker in the music video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eminem responded with another track, \u201cThe Warning,\u201d in 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWow Mariah, didn\u2019t expect you to go balls out\/ Bitch, shut the f\u2013k up \u2018fore I put all them phone calls out,\u201d he rapped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These days, though, Carey has put the Eminem feud far behind her. On Friday, she dropped \u201cType Dangerous,\u201d her first proper single since 2018\u2019s \u201cCaution.\u201d She performed the new track on Monday night at the BET Awards, where she received the Ultimate Icon Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis means so much, especially coming from BET,\u201d Carey said. \u201cThis is my first BET Award. I mean, if you\u2019re gonna get one, might as well start with the Ultimate Icon Award.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added, \u201cIt took me a while, but I finally realized life is far too short to live for anyone else\u2019s approval, which is something I always did.
