Queen\u2019s groundbreaking journey began more than 50 years ago with their debut album, Queen I<\/em>, a record that introduced the world to their unique blend of theatrical rock and intricate musicianship. Now, fans have a reason to revisit that classic like never before. Guitarist Sir Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor have overseen a brand-new Dolby Atmos surround-sound mix of Queen I<\/em>, promising an immersive listening experience that \u201cnobody has ever heard quite like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year\u2019s remastered reissue set the stage, but this latest version pushes the boundaries of what\u2019s possible with modern audio technology. \u201cI\u2019m particularly excited about this new Dolby Atmos version of what we now call QUEEN I<\/em>,\u201d May said, reflecting on his recent return to the mixing sessions after being sidelined by a \u201chealth hiccup\u201d during the initial surround sound conversion. \u201cI was thrilled to rejoin the team and add my own contribution to this multichannel mix.\u201d May teased that dedicated fans will discover \u201ca few nice adventurous Easter eggs\u201d hidden throughout the Blu-ray release\u2014special touches designed to delight those intimately familiar with the album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roger Taylor shared the excitement: \u201cAt last, we get our first album to sound as we imagined it should sound\u2026 phew!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breathing New Life into a 50-Year-Old Classic<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the executive production of May and Taylor, Queen\u2019s longtime audio-production team\u2014Justin Shirley-Smith, Joshua J. Macrae, and Kris Fredriksson\u2014reconstructed the original stems from the 2024 stereo mix to give every vocal and instrument its own distinct space in the sound field. Shirley-Smith remarked, \u201cQueen\u2019s music was designed for immersive formats. It\u2019s dramatic and powerful and has a lot of dynamics. The original album was recorded more than 50 years ago, but it was so ambitious musically, rhythmically, and lyrically. It\u2019s beyond belief really, and it\u2019s such a joy for us to work on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By carefully panning and processing each element, the team has added remarkable depth and dimension without sacrificing the signature layered sound that Queen fans cherish. \u201cWe\u2019re confident that the stereo mix is already excellent,\u201d Shirley-Smith explained, \u201cbut this expanded sound field allows us to feature the backing tracks without masking the intricate details Queen is famous for.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Royal Treatment at Abbey Road<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final Atmos mix was completed by Lewis Jones at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, known worldwide for its state-of-the-art immersive mixing facilities. Jones brought extensive experience from major Dolby Atmos projects to ensure Queen I<\/em> delivers a truly enveloping sonic experience for longtime fans and new listeners alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the Blu-ray version now available\u2014and a streaming upgrade forthcoming\u2014Queen invites fans to rediscover the raw energy, inventiveness, and pioneering spirit of their debut album like never before.
