Summoning his courage, he asked her out.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their romance was low-key and brief\u2014few casual dates, a quick peck on the cheek, and polite goodnights. It never progressed beyond friendship, but the encounter left a lasting impression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"freddie-seizes-the-moment\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Freddie_Seizes_the_Moment\"><\/span>Freddie Seizes the Moment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the time Queen signed their first major record deal with Warner Bros., Freddie Mercury had already met Mary through band social circles. May remembers the pivotal day Freddie approached him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cStrangely enough, Mary was the girl that I picked out as somebody fabulous, and I was kind of going out with her,\u201d May told&nbsp;<em>Yahoo! Music<\/em>&nbsp;in 2017. Then Freddie asked, \u201cAre you serious with Mary? Can I ask her out?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ever the gentleman, May agreed to introduce them\u2014unaware this moment would change the course of rock history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"seven-years-of-fierce-devotion\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Seven_Years_of_Fierce_Devotion\"><\/span>Seven Years of Fierce Devotion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercury and Austin went on to share seven intense years together. When Mercury came to terms with his sexuality, their romantic relationship ended, but their bond only deepened.
