Dave Grohl-led band celebrates the 30th anniversary of their debut LP on July 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two days after unveiling a surprise Minor Threat cover<\/a>, Foo Fighters have returned with a new original, \u201cToday\u2019s Song,\u201d which precedes the 30th anniversary of the Dave Grohl-led band\u2019s self-titled debut album on July 4. It\u2019s also the group\u2019s first fresh music since the release of 2023\u2019s But Here We Are<\/em> and drummer Josh Freese\u2019s sudden departure<\/a> earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The first 55 seconds of \u201cToday\u2019s Song\u201d find Grohl singing over a simple, meditative organ line, his lyrics seemingly addressing the extramarital affair that scotched the band\u2019s 2024 tour: \u201cI woke today screaming for change \/ I knew that I must \/ So here lies a shadow, ashes to ashes, dust into dust.\u201d From there, the Foos introduce their signature mid-tempo, heavy guitar attack as Grohl\u2019s voice grows in intensity (\u201cwe all drown in the middle \/ which side are you on?\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Grohl also plays drums on the track, which he\u2019d rarely done in a Foo Fighters context for many years prior to But Here We Are<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOver the years, we\u2019ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak,\u201d Grohl wrote on the Foos\u2019 recently launched\u00a0Substack page<\/a>, which is featuring rare images and contemporary recollections about their career. \u201cMoments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can\u2019t go it alone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
