Crowd Movement Causes Ground to Shake<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Metallica concert at Virginia Tech\u2019s Lane Stadium created more than just noise. When 60,000 fans jumped and cheered together during the performance, it caused a small earthquake, according to Fox Weather. The moment happened while the band played their well-known song Enter Sandman, which got the entire crowd moving in sync.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ground movement was strong enough to be picked up by equipment at the Virginia Tech Seismological Observatory (VTSO). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

VTSO Director Martin Chapman told Fox Weather that the audience\u2019s energy caused the seismograph to register real ground motion. It wasn\u2019t a major earthquake, but it was strong enough to be noticed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
