That\u2019s my idol and I feel like he\u2019s said all he has to say. Of course I\u2019mma love anything he does, I would hope people would be the same way with me. So, have I listened to it? No. Do I want to listen to it? Yes. I\u2019ve wanted to listen to it the second I heard it was getting recorded. I\u2019m scared to make that step, cause I don\u2019t ever wanna look at my idol like (sigh). In high school and middle school, I had an Eminem poster on my wall&nbsp;\u2014 MGK on Montreality\u2013 0:20<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"2b5d\">However, just four years on from the release of that record, Machine Gun Kelly would be embroiled in a bitter feud with his idol and if you ask him, the dispute arose from a seemingly innocuous tweet&nbsp;that pushed Shady\u2019s buttons and would eventually get him in trouble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ad8a\">Back in 2012, the young rapper took to Twitter to proclaim that&nbsp;<em>\u201cOk so I just saw a picture of Eminem\u2019s daughter and I have to say\u2026 she is hot as f**k. In the most respectful way possible, cuz Em is king.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3e66\">Talk about a backhanded compliment if you\u2019ve ever heard one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3a22\">Although he was happy to express his fealty to Shady as the ruler of the game, everybody knows that putting the name of Haillie Mathers in your mouth is a cardinal sin for a rapper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"c1b5\"><span id=\"the-reign-of-the-rap-god\">The Reign of The Rap God<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"c58b\">Over the years, Eminem has garnered a fearsome reputation among his fellow rappers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"4550\">Not just for his adept wordplay and multisyllabic patterns, but for the venom that he can dispense in their direction in a moment\u2019s notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"7250\">After all, his run-in with MGK wouldn\u2019t be the first time that he\u2019d ostensibly chased an artist from the frontlines from the genre<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"dd19\">Alongside belittling&nbsp;<strong>Mariah Carey<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Nick Cannon<\/strong>, Em severely diminished&nbsp;<strong>Benzino<\/strong>\u2019s credibility at the height of their feud, in arguably the first major warning sign that you do NOT want to trade bars with Eminem unless your last name is<strong>&nbsp;Carter&nbsp;<\/strong>or&nbsp;<strong>Duckworth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/pBgb9P0Xg9c\/hq720.jpg?sqp=-oaymwEhCK4FEIIDSFryq4qpAxMIARUAAAAAGAElAADIQj0AgKJD&amp;rs=AOn4CLCGAxnE3ZHsU0rmwsUMzZ3_5MmkXw\" alt=\"EMINEM vs MACHINE GUN KELLY: el BEEF COMPLETO (en ESPA\u00d1OL) - YouTube\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"8032\">Shady\u2019s&nbsp;<strong><em>\u201cNail In The Coffin\u201d<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;diss to Boston rapper Benzino was a blistering tour-de-force of life-altering one-liners that took all of Benzino\u2019s supposed advantages like street credibility, being the owner of the popular&nbsp;<strong><em>Source Magazine<\/em><\/strong>, and claim that he would put hands on Eminem\u2019s mom\u2026 and turned them into laughably pathetic disadvantages to be used as tools in Eminem\u2019s hands:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"8611\"><em>\u201cSlap my mom! Slap the f**k out of her!<br>She can\u2019t sue you, she wouldn\u2019t get a buck out of ya\u2026<br>If you was really sellin\u2019 coke, well, then what the f**k<br>You stop for, dummy? If you slew some crack<br>You\u2019d make a lot more money than you do from rap!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"588c\">Whew, and that was Eminem ten YEARS before MGK decided to come after him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"91c8\">Additionally, Eminem lyrically marooned&nbsp;<strong>Ja Rule<\/strong>&nbsp;off on an island of irrelevance with<strong><em>&nbsp;\u201cHailie\u2019s Revenge\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>and other well-timed off the mic chess moves in the mid-2000\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3c6d\">While Shady initially tried to stay out of the feud between the Murder Inc. stalwart and his then-protege<strong>&nbsp;50 Cent<\/strong>, the minute that Ja mentioned his daughter in a derogatory way, there had to be repercussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"2936\">Or as Marshall put it in&nbsp;<strong><em>\u201cLike Toy Soldiers\u201d:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p id=\"f08f\">\u201cThere\u2019s a certain line you just don\u2019t cross, and he crossed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"2d62\">I heard him say Hailie\u2019s name on a song and I just lost it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"f898\">With all of that said, let\u2019s move onto what would possess MGK to meddle with a man of the musical stature of Marshall Mathers, but if you yourself are an artist or potential rapper who would like to learn some of Eminem\u2019s \u201cinsider secrets\u201d on how to rap battle and diss your opponents at the level of a Shady, click HERE to check out our Rap Battle Bootcamp where teach Eminem-level diss tactics and have a bonus interview with rap battle legend Corey Charron from MTV\u2019s Wild\u2019n Out and King of The Dot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4749\"><span id=\"the-first-shot-fired\">The First Shot Fired<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/8MOAgXwYlKM\/hq720.jpg?sqp=-oaymwEhCK4FEIIDSFryq4qpAxMIARUAAAAAGAElAADIQj0AgKJD&amp;rs=AOn4CLC32Xe920hGW_3zAzvkUZdft-bI2w\" alt=\"Why MGK Lost To Eminem Even Before Their Beef Started - YouTube\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"b5ff\">Despite the fact that he was already playing with fire, it was MGK that arguably fired the first shot in this lyrical war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3cfb\">Released in 2018, MGK utilized his guest verse on&nbsp;<strong>Tech N9NE\u2019<\/strong>s&nbsp;<strong><em>\u201cNo Reason\u201d<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;to lambast Shady for labeling himself as a deity in the hip-hop world, spitting \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p id=\"8684\">\u201cI pop cherries and popstars, you popsicles is not hard<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"047d\">Popped in on the top charts out the cop car<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"eec5\">To remind y\u2019all you just rap, you\u2019re not Gods<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"af79\">And I don\u2019t care who got bars\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"4c71\">Unfortunately for MGK, Em got word of this at a time when he was feeling particularly motivated to take on all comers and when he released his surprise album,&nbsp;<strong><em>Kamikaze<\/em><\/strong><em>,&nbsp;<\/em>later that same year, he had some choice words for the rapper on&nbsp;<strong><em>\u201cNot Alike\u201d<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p id=\"e981\">\u201cIf you wanna come at me with a sub, Machine Gun<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"d0e9\">And I\u2019m talkin\u2019 to you, but you already know who the (expletive) you are, Kelly<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"d9c8\">I don\u2019t use sublime and sure as (expletive) don\u2019t sneak-diss<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"e898\">But keep commenting on my daughter Hailie.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"bda6\">For those that didn\u2019t catch it, Eminem is doing a play on words known as a&nbsp;<strong>\u201chomonym\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;or as we call it at How To Rap\u2026 a sound-alike where is using the name \u201c<strong>R. Kelly<\/strong>\u201d the famous singer who was jailed for being attracted to younger women, and the sentence<strong><em>&nbsp;\u201cwho you ARE, Kelly\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>as in MGK\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"8745\">Since MGK was talking about how he was seemingly attracted to Eminem\u2019s young daughter, again like R. Kelly\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0fde\"><em>(MGK should\u2019ve known it wasn\u2019t a good idea to bark up this tree)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3c3e\">Now, four days on from that track\u2019s release date, MGK would do the unthinkable and take some time out from his touring cycle to send a diss track in Shady\u2019s direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"a5ae\">Entitled&nbsp;<strong>\u201cRap Devil\u201d<\/strong>, the track saw a fiery MGK decry Em as an out of touch and embittered old man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"b019\">Now, again we have to shoot MGK some bail here and say that \u201cRap Devil\u201d was a solid diss, even a good diss if it wasn\u2019t against one of the greatest if not the greatest rapper of all time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"2933\">It had several angles, including painting Eminem as essentially a uncoordinated hermit who talks tough on record but won\u2019t leave his house, and even had objectively funny sections like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p id=\"b220\">I am the prodigy<br>How could I even look up to you? You ain\u2019t as tall as me<br>5\u20198\u2033 and I\u2019m 6\u20194\u2033, seven punches hold your head still<br>Last time you saw 8 Mile was at home on a treadmill<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0bc5\">The problem was and is: he wasn\u2019t dissing just your mid-tier lean-sipping trap rapper or someone on the coming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"8f84\">He was dissing one of the greatest rap artists of all time, and as MGK clearly knew, somebody who would use his own lines against him. People forget that Eminem came to prominence first and foremost as a rap battler, winning 2nd place in the prestigious Rap Olympics back in the 1990s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"c1d1\">Additionally, as Eminem would exploit mercilessly throughout his response, \u201cRap Devil\u201d had numerous admonitions that Shady was, in MGK\u2019s words ON THE RECORD, \u201cThe GOAT\u201d, \u201cin everybody\u2019s top 10\u201d and \u201chad an Oscar\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"2d2e\">Why, Colson, why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"2733\">In any case, \u201cRap Devil\u201d&nbsp;<em>initially<\/em>&nbsp;did make some serious waves in the culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3906\">Once it set social media alight, MGK explained his&nbsp;motivations, declaring that&nbsp;<em>\u201cI\u2019m standing up for not just myself, but my generation. im doing the same s**t you did back in ur day. life is still real on my side, and i had to take time from the grind to defend myself from someone i called an idol. love, Rap Devil.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0Shady Takes Aim<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Eminem vs MGK - Rap God + Alpha Omega MASHUP REMIX | New 2019\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kxsgT-n4A0U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After he took aim at Shady in such a scathing fashion, the world waited with baited breath for Em\u2019s next move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"bce7\">But before he\u2019d mount up with another retort, he outlined exactly what MGK did that managed to invoke such a strong response out of Em in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p id=\"cd14\">\u201cThe thing that was going on where he was saying the s**t about my daughter, I didn\u2019t even know about that until like a year and a half later. It never hit my radar. Then, one day, you go down the wormhole of YouTube. I see \u201cMachine Gun Kelly talks about Eminem\u2019s daughter. Then he starts doing a press run basically, about Haillie. I\u2019m like\u2026 The reason I dissed him is actually a lot more petty than that,\u201d -Em<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"a521\">\u201cThe reason that I dissed him is because he got on \u2014 first he said, \u2018I\u2019m the greatest rapper alive since my favorite rapper banned me from Shade 45\u2032 or whatever he said, right? Like I\u2019m trying to hinder his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"7895\">I don\u2019t give a f**k about your career. You think I actually f**king think about you? You know how many f**king rappers are better than you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"8818\">You\u2019re not even in the f**king conversation. I don\u2019t care if you blow or if you don\u2019t blow, it doesn\u2019t matter to me. But then when you get on Tech N9Ne\u2019s album and you start sending shots and people start hitting me up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"219f\">I listen to it, like nah he\u2019s not dissing me. Then, I get a screenshot from Twitter that says \u201csomething I had to get off my chest, you just rap, you not god.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"b190\">This was on the heels of the freestyle he\u2019d just did about Shade 45, it\u2019s like, shut the f**k up. Now, now, I\u2019m in this weird thing where I\u2019m like, I gotta answer this mother*****r. As irrelevant as people say I am, it makes them bigger when I get into this thing where I\u2019m like, I want to destroy him, but I also don\u2019t want to make him bigger-&nbsp;\u2014 Eminem talks to Sway.&nbsp;2:40<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"4780\">After he\u2019d ultimately determined that MGK\u2019s provocations Em, who\u2019d soon claim that he had to \u201cgive him a career to destroy it\u201d on the blistering diss track&nbsp;<strong>\u201cKillshot\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"7f20\">A song which smashed YouTube records for the most streams in one day, the track presented an Em that was full of vitality and within minutes, fans were already declaring that MGK\u2019s career as we know it was D.O.A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"5cac\">From the outset, Eminem had done what he had done time and time again to lyrically crucify his previous opponents like Benzino and Ja Rule, using their own supposed advantages as the bread and butter to feed them as their last meal to their musical execution:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ab1b\"><em>\u201cWait, you just dissed me? Rap Devil, we\u2019re talking about facts, you want to talk man buns? Answer the facts. You want to talk about a hairstyle I wore for a movie? A blockbuster movie? And a ten episode Showtime series called Roadies. I\u2019m an actor homie, how disconnected are you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"611d\">I wanted equal playing grounds. Let\u2019s also say it like it is, You took two weeks, I took two days. You used a Ronny J track, I used a Ronny J track. You used a million dollar studio, I used a dressing room before soundcheck-&nbsp;<em>MGK on The Breakfast Club (1:50)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"7d12\">Even with the wounds that he\u2019d endured, MGK continued to defend his honor and insisted that Shady truly had attempted to stifle his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p id=\"44f9\">What Eminem said wasn\u2019t true was that he didn\u2019t make a call in regards to the the daughter situation, that was false. Jimmy Iovine and Puff conference called me at nine in the morning, along with several other people and that was a conversation that happened at 3 in the morning the previous night. Em lied-&nbsp;0:33&nbsp;(same interview).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"53cc\">No matter what the Cleveland rapper\u2019s outlook may have been, it didn\u2019t help the fact that as far as many fans were concerned he\u2019d been consigned to the genre\u2019s trash heap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"e60c\"><span id=\"colsons-crisis-of-meaning\">Colson\u2019s Crisis of Meaning<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"45a0\">In a conversation with Dave Franco&nbsp;for Interview Magazine, MGK spoke of the lukewarm response to his last attempt at a hip-hop project in&nbsp;<strong><em>Hotel Diablo<\/em><\/strong>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why the project was ironically my best received one, because it was the most effortless, with the least outside influence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ee89\">\u201cAs a hip-hop album, it\u2019s flawless front to back, and also a hint at the evolution of how I went into a pop-punk album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"e348\">But it was coming off the tail-end of that infamous beef (with Eminem). So no one wanted to give it the time of day\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0bfe\">What I did in the beef was exactly what it should be, but that project wasn\u2019t welcomed\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"04b4\">The next album came from already feeling like I\u2019d counted out, so I didn\u2019t even care what the public was going to think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Machine Gun Kelly &quot;Rap Devil 2&quot; (Eminem Diss) ( Official Music Video)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QsDdSfXE774?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As he touched on in that conversation, MGK would soon depart from the world of hip-hop entirely and in doing so, yielded his greatest commercial success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"81a0\">While he\u2019d always incorporated influences from rock into his world, the news that MGK had teamed up with Travis Barker of Blink 182 to craft a \u201cpop punk\u201d album was initially mocked, with a video of him dancing on the table at Interscope\u2019s Office was portrayed as an act of&nbsp;cringe-inducing desperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"b265\">Alongside the memes, the prevailing narrative around his abrupt shift in direction was that Em had rid hip-hop of MGK and that he\u2019d been forced to seek refuge in another genre to escape him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"7ec2\">But, the rapper-turned-rocker, suggested that it happened organically and by the time that it released, it was hard to dispute that it\u2019d been a shrewd decision on his part as the record,&nbsp;<strong><em>Tickets To My Downfall<\/em><\/strong><em>,&nbsp;<\/em>would break down previously impenetrable barriers for him in terms of success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"6515\">The record culminated in his first number one album&nbsp;and all at once, it seemed like his fortunes had been overhauled once and for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p id=\"4379\">\u201cThere was probably a crossroads in the middle of making this album where the title would have lived up to the reality\u201d,&nbsp;he told NME after its release. \u201cI think the universe caught on to me wanting to make a change. It was like: \u2018Maybe we won\u2019t make this a reality; maybe we\u2019ll make this ironic.\u2019 Instead of the downfall, go ahead and have the biggest rise of your f**king life.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"7e09\">With MGK now firmly out of his territory, it seemed like Shady was willing to let bygones be bygones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ffb3\">On the track&nbsp;<strong>\u201cUnaccommodating\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;from 2021\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>Music To Be Murdered By<\/strong>, Em clarified where he stood on the matter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p id=\"33e5\">But when they ask me is the war finished with MGK? Of course it is<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"b385\">I cleansed him of his mortal sins, I\u2019m God and the Lord forgives even the devil worshippers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"e694\">I\u2019m moving on but you know your scruples are gone when you\u2019re born with Lucifer\u2019s horns<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"2889\">But while Em could bask in a sense of closure, the beef was evidently still an albatross around his neck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"5805\">In the years since the feud began to die down, Eminem fans have continually besieged MGK\u2019s social media to remind him that he\u2019d been bested by Shady on every single post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"f60d\">At times, the world\u2019s enduring fascination with the incident has led to public incidents for MGK and on one occasion, he even destroyed a fan\u2019s autograph when em\u2019s name was mentioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p id=\"925e\">Clip- Paparazzi- Have you talked to Eminem since you guys\u2019 beef?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"5aa3\">(MGK loses it, storms off)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"740f\">In another instance, he&nbsp;was apparently attacked by a Shady fan in North Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a31b\"><span id=\"game-set-match\">Game, Set, Match<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"8c79\">Soon, it seemed like MGK was officially done with both the discourse around his run-in with Shady and rapping as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"1e7d\">As now, he\u2019d finally found a lane where he believed that his artistic potential and personality could be capitalized on in a way that he believed hip-hop simply never wanted from him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"f6b7\"><em>\u201cHip-hop is such a pit-bull industry, meaning you want to be the toughest one in the cage\u201d<\/em>, he told&nbsp;<strong>Interview<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ac2d\"><em>\u201cEspecially during those times. Now there\u2019s this beautiful vulnerability that everyone\u2019s expressing, with artists like Juice WRLD, rest in peace, and Lil Peep, rest in peace. I was vulnerable in my writing, but people didn\u2019t look past my image. Now, the image and the lyrics kind of meet in the middle.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"035d\"><em>My fifth album is my most well-received, my highest-selling, my biggest debut. That doesn\u2019t make any sense in the history of how musicians usually come out\u201d<\/em>, he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"9b89\"><em>\u201cYour first or second album, for the most part, is your best work, or your highest-selling work. That is the peak of the fans interest in you, because that\u2019s you spilling your whole life. I was more motivated by the fact that no one understood me every single time an album dropped. I would just sit there like, \u2018What am I missing?\u2019 The chemicals in my formula weren\u2019t right, because I wasn\u2019t fully open yet.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"d42a\"><em>I don\u2019t know how I would\u2019ve handled it if this project had failed. We would\u2019ve seen a much different person after this, and that person would\u2019ve sunk very fast. I would\u2019ve written myself off and I would\u2019ve been like, \u2018You\u2019re a f**king failure.\u2019 I think I would\u2019ve shut down.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"951d\">Suddenly taken from the last chance saloon and into a new boom period for his career, MGK, who has now largely outran the shadow of Eminem by leaving hip-hop behind, is being asking in what he\u2019s achieved as a pop punk artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0e03\"><em>\u201cI get that people are saying: \u2018How the f**k did Machine Gun Kelly make the f**king biggest rock record of the year?\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;he relayed to NME.<em>&nbsp;\u201cI get that concept sucks for some people, and it may not have been your choice \u2014 but it f**king happened.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"17ee\">After the release of 2020\u2019s&nbsp;<strong><em>Tickets To My Downfall<\/em><\/strong>, MGK was playing bigger arenas than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"88ce\">A graduation into superstar status that would eventually lead to his second number one album with 2022\u2019s Mainstream Sellout, MGK may be flourishing now that he\u2019s formally armed with a guitar, but he\u2019s routinely refuted the idea that his tenure in hip-hop is over once and for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"db08\"><em>\u201cI think that I\u2019m doing something that hasn\u2019t been seen yet and is unusual in the way that people don\u2019t know how to categorize it so it\u2019s been seen as I\u2019m leaving or departing something or doing this\u2026. But it\u2019s the same when I look back at Jamie [Foxx[ and I\u2019m like, how crazy is it that he was this insane piano player but also this great vocalist and comedian who also is an actor, who also had a number one record. It\u2019s like, we don\u2019t give him his flowers yet, because we don\u2019t know what to call them.
