Three generations of chart-toppers came together for a night of music when Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas joined Mick Jagger, Bono and Bruce Springsteen on stage.

The 34-year-old may have been the baby of the group but certainly showed youth is a great substitute for experience.

Wearing a tight, black, leather number and accompanied by her band mates, she danced a duety with Jagger, who sang “Gimme Shelter”.

Jagger provocatively stuck his microphone in his waistband as the newly married Fergie approached.

During U2’s set Bono waxed lyrical about the political power of rock ‘n’ roll.

U2 topped the bill for the four hours of music but others joined including Annie Lennox and Lenny Kravitz who came on stage with Aretha Franklin.

Sting also popped up to sing “People Get Ready” with Jeff Beck.

Metallica brought the crowd to its feet, as audience members played air guitar and head-banged their way through their set.

Stevie Wonder overcame technical difficulties at the beginning of his set to deliver a hit-filled, star-studded performance.

Ozzy Osbourne came out to perform “Iron Man” and “Paranoid” but it was Bruce Springsteen who closed the night with another epic performance.

The stars were performing in a concert at Madison Square Gardens, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musical stars performed four hours of music.
