One of the most captivating performances on The Voice UK occurred in 2019 when Peter Donegan took the stage for his blind audition. Performing Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road,” Peter showcased his impressive vocal talent, although he only managed to turn one chair – that of the esteemed Sir Tom Jones.

This chair was of utmost importance to Peter, as Sir Tom Jones inquired about his relation to the late skiffle music legend, Lonnie Donegan. To everyone’s surprise, Peter revealed, “He’s my father.” Sir Tom Jones then shared anecdotes about his friendship with Lonnie and the song he wrote specifically for him.

Expressing his astonishment at the fact that Donegan had such a young son, Sir Tom Jones proposed a duet of “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again,” a song he released in 1967 and still performed in his shows. Peter, a skilled pianist who had been playing in his father’s band since he was 18, agreed to accompany Sir Tom Jones on the piano.

Sir Tom Jones sang the initial verses before inviting Peter to join him in a heartfelt performance. In an interview with the press, Sir Tom Jones emphasized that the moment was genuine and not staged. Let’s watch this incredible performance below:

Coach Will.i.am, couldn’t contain his excitement and exclaimed, “That was magical. Just all the things that happened in the world for that to happen. Even if you go back to the 60s when his dad wrote the song for Tom Jones, and had the baby to all come together to make that magical moment.”

Jones added, “There’s never been anything like that. If it was like a movie.” Adding to the drama, during the Battle Round, Sir Tom Jones had to choose between Peter Donegan and Deana Walmsley, who delivered a stunning duet of Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love.”

Both gave outstanding performances, leaving some viewers in tears and others suggesting that they should form a duo. Ultimately, Sir Tom Jones chose Deana Walmsley, prompting comments like, “That’s the hallmark of a brilliant judge. Tom Jones was Peter’s dad’s friend but he still went with Dina. No favouritism.”
