The Voice Season 28 wasted no time making history. On September 23, the premiere episode featured a firefighter’s heartfelt proposal, Michael Bublé’s best reaction yet, and the debut of a brand-new twist — leaving fans calling it one of the most unforgettable opening nights in years.

California firefighter Jacob Ryan Gustafson, 35, stepped onto the stage to perform Morgan Wallen’s Spin You Around. Though his Blind Audition did not earn a chair turn, Jacob wasn’t walking away empty-handed. Instead, he shocked the coaches and audience by calling his girlfriend, Jennifer, onto the stage.

“This life is a beautiful life, and I’m so blessed. And even right now if I could change anything, the only thing I’d change is your last name,” Jacob said before dropping to one knee.

Jennifer tearfully accepted, sparking wild applause. Snoop Dogg rushed the stage, yelling, “Go get her, Jake!” as Michael Bublé, Reba McEntire, and Niall Horan joined in to congratulate the newly engaged couple.
