There is a special kind of magic that happens when a global superstar trades a massive arena for an intimate local venue. On a quiet Thursday night in Sydney, Ed Sheeran gave a handful of lucky fans exactly that experience. Just days before he was scheduled to headline the massive Accor Stadium, the 35-year-old hitmaker decided to make an unannounced appearance at the Paddington RSL. He walked on stage to join the beloved Irish folk group Beoga for their encore, completely stunning everyone in the room.

Beoga is actually the supporting act for Sheeran on the Australian leg of his Loop tour, but this particular headline show belonged entirely to them. That is until they brought out their very famous friend to bring the house down. Sheeran took over the lead vocals on two incredible tracks. He treated the crowd to a beautiful rendition of the traditional folk song “Wild Mountain Thyme” before launching into a vibrant, dazzling version of his massive pop hit “Shape of You.”

It did not take long for footage of the impromptu set to find its way online. Fans immediately took to social media to share videos of the special moment. One concertgoer posted a clip of Sheeran warmly hugging the band members and taking a shared bow at the end of the gig. The fan joked that it was very nice of the band to let Ed Sheeran have a little sing with them. The comments sections were flooded with pure excitement. People left messages calling the surprise completely awesome, while another fan simply gushed that the moment was everything.
For anyone following Sheeran closely, his connection with Beoga runs deep. The Irish band formed in County Kerry back in 2002, and their name perfectly translates to “lively” in Gaelic. They famously collaborated with Sheeran on his blockbuster 2016 album Divide. They even served as his backing band during his iconic Glastonbury Festival headline set in 2017. Seeing them share a small stage again felt like a fantastic reunion.

This surprise pub gig is just one small piece of a massive run across the country. Sheeran was last in Australia in 2023 for his Mathematics Tour, and fans have been eager for his return. His current Loop tour officially kicked off in Perth on January 31. From there, he heads into his highly anticipated Sydney dates at Accor Stadium on February 13, 14, and 15. The beloved performer will then pack his bags for Brisbane to play three nights at Suncorp Stadium on February 20, 21, and 22. Due to massive demand, he also added a third show to his Melbourne stop, meaning he will take over Marvel Stadium on February 26, 27, and 28. Finally, he will wrap up more than a month of traveling the country with a grand finale at the Adelaide Oval on March 5.
