Mrs. Edi Aringhieri shared her story on the television program “Domenica In”. She is the mother of Andrea Bocelli, the world-renowned tenor. She said:

“The doctors told me that my child would be born with a congenital disease that would cause him to go blind. They advised me to have an abortion, but I refused.”

The mother whom doctors advised to terminate the pregnancy is the mother of the legendary singer Andrea Bocelli. Mrs. Edi Aringhieri was invited on Domenica In to share the story of her son. She explained:

“At the time, I went to the hospital for stomach pain. I remember the doctor advising me to terminate the pregnancy because my child would be born blind.”

Andrea Bocelli lost his sight at the age of 12. She recalled that during a hospital stay in Turin, Andrea met a tall Russian man who loved orchestral music. Andrea listened to it all day while at the hospital. That was when he realized he was captivated by that kind of music—so immersed that he forgot he was in a hospital. He no longer remembered he was receiving care; Andrea was completely lost in the music.

Even though the doctors advised her to have an abortion, she chose not to. She explained:

“I want to tell this story to encourage other families who may be facing a situation like mine—to give them strength and hope.”
