Music world in mourning as Elton John honors the life and legacy of Brian Wilson
In his touching message, Elton wrote:
“Today, the world lost a genius. I lost a friend. And music lost one of its brightest, most fragile stars.”
He continued by recalling how Brian Wilson’s music touched his soul, how songs like “God Only Knows” brought him to tears, not from sadness, but from the overwhelming truth and beauty in Brian’s melodies.
“His melodies painted oceans. His harmonies healed hearts. And his vulnerability showed generations of artists, including me, that music could be both powerful and painfully honest,” Elton wrote.
He also shared that they had spoken in recent months and that despite Wilson’s quiet demeanor, his heart was still full of music and love. Elton confessed that standing beside Brian’s casket, draped in the American flag with a photo of the icon watching over, broke his heart.
