There is something inherently special about a hometown show. Niall Horan proved exactly that on Friday night during his massive Dublin homecoming gig. Playing the first of two back-to-back nights at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, the former One Direction star delivered a concert that fans will be talking about for a very long time. This stop was part of his highly anticipated The Show tour, which kicked off in Belfast in February and stands as the 30-year-old artist’s most ambitious live production to date.

Throughout the evening, Horan treated the crowd to a fantastic mix of his solo catalog and nostalgic nods to his boyband past. He moved through major solo hits like “Slow Hands,” “Nice To Meet Ya,” and “This Town” as the audience sang every word back to him. But the Mullingar native was holding onto a massive secret. He saved the absolute biggest thrill of the night for the very end.

Taking a moment to speak to the crowd, Horan explained that a very good friend had traveled all the way across from England just to be there. He mentioned how much this friend loves Ireland before asking the crowd to welcome the great Ed Sheeran to the stage. The unannounced arrival sent a wave of sheer shock and deafening screams through the venue. Sheeran then grabbed his guitar and launched right into his 2011 classic “Lego House,” a standout track from his debut album.

As if a surprise solo performance was not enough, the two friends then teamed up for something truly special. Horan and Sheeran delivered a beautiful acoustic duet of “Little Things,” the beloved One Direction ballad from the group’s second studio album, Take Me Home. Hearing those two voices blend on such a nostalgic fan favorite was pure magic for everyone in attendance.

The excitement spilled directly onto social media after the show wrapped. Horan shared a video of the unforgettable duet on his Instagram account, thanking Sheeran for coming out to play in Dublin and calling the night another great memory. Fans flooded the comment section to share their complete disbelief over witnessing one of the best live music moments of the entire year.

One fan admitted they were actually crying while watching the footage, while another practically demanded that the two artists finally record a studio track together because their voices complement each other incredibly well. Another lucky attendee shared a fun story about buying a last-minute ticket just days before the show, completely unaware they were about to get a surprise Ed Sheeran performance thrown into the deal. While Sheeran has not released an official statement about his cameo, he did share an Instagram story later that night that perfectly captured the mood. He posted a photo of himself enjoying a fresh pint of Guinness while wearing a green shirt that read “Dublin is for Lovers.” It was the perfect end to a legendary night of live music.
